The Gamma Pi chapter of Alpha Phi International Fraternity at Arizona State University is a membership organization dedicated to promoting sisterhood, cultivating leadership, encouraging intellectual curiosity and advocating service. Alpha Phi develops character for a lifetime.

The weekend of September 24th-26th is packed with Parent’s activities, starting with Red Dress Gala. Following Gala, the parent’s and members enjoyed a nice day tailgating with the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity before the ASU game against the Oregon Ducks. The event was attended by many and the food was amazing. While ASU did not win the game, a good time was had by all!

On Sunday, the ladies of Alpha Phi gathered to celebrate the new members and the senior class at a brunch.

We presented the new members with white roses which represent innocence and new beginnings. The white rose is also a symbol of honor and reverence. This rose in itself holds a deep meaning to the sisters in Alpha Phi. We honored these young women because we believe they hold the ideals and values in which Alpha Phi cherishes. We were very privileged to present these women and are proud to call them our sisters.

As were  honored to present seniors with pink roses. The pink roses represent a symbol of grace and elegance. The pink rose is often given as an expression of admiration. This particular rose can also convey appreciation as well as joyfulness. We feel as if our seniors embody all of these attributes and were pleased to honor them.

Four Arizona State faculty members were presented with a Teaching from the Heart Award. These four nominees were chosen for characteristics that Alpha Phi as a chapter looks high upon. These four individuals have gone above and beyond in the community and show care for their students in need. As well as shown some of Alpha Phi’s core values such as leadership, service, character development, scholarship and loyalty.

-Charlotte Frambaugh-Kritzer…  Charlotte demonstrates a strong personal belief system. She exemplifies the values seen most important in Alpha Phi which are a strong sense of service to the community, respect for education and she demonstrates intense loyalty to those close to her.

-Kacie Joyner who was unable to attend our event. Kacie was nominated for her consistent leadership characteristics as well as character development. She taught on a more personal level and tried to reach out to each and every student.

-Katie Barclay Penkoff… Katie was nominated for the Teaching from the Heart award because she demonstrates every noble characteristic that Alpha Phi’s strive to obtain. She is hardworking, philanthropic, and a positive mentor for her students.

-Scott Ritter.. Scott was nominated for this award because he is a leader that is active in developing great children for our future. He is always willing to help with the community and his students.

We would like to thank you for being excellent teachers; you all have truly exemplified what it means to teach from the heart.

We would like to thank our generous supporters. We appreciate all you have done to make Red Dress Gala and Alpha Phi successful.

“Alpha Phi isn’t just a sorority, or a group of girls to hang out with. It’s not just some club, or another Monday meeting to attend. It’s not just for fun, or for connections, its more than that, it’s a way of life. Everything this house stands for, everything this house represents, is who we are, who Alpha Phi has made us, and it’s something we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. This pride, this sense of belonging and this unconditional love and respect we have gained for all the girl in this house is my answer to “Why Alpha Phi?” Alpha Phi has made me who we I am today and who we will be for the rest of my life. Alpha Phi will give you the opportunity to make the most out of your college days, and will give you unforgettable memories many people can never experience in a lifetime. We invite you to join us in the best days of your life.”

That was the welcome letter I received from the then chapter president during my first house meeting with Alpha Phi. I can remember sitting in my dorm room reading this over again, touched by the words this woman used to describe a sisterhood I was joining. What she said seemed too good to be true; while even then I knew Alpha Phi was going to give me an experience of a lifetime, I never imaged it would touch me the way it has. I proudly wear my letters and know this organization has helped to shape the woman I am now. Going into my senior and final collegiate year with Alpha Phi I know my sisterhood held me up allowing me to take advantage of remarkable opportunities. My sisters have supported my path towards graduate school, given me the much needed breaks in between studying, they fill every ‘best’ memory I’ve had in the past 3 years and have gotten me through the worst ones.

As we get ready for Fall RUSH 2010 I am so excited to take on another new member class and share this experience. It is truly an honor and privilege waiting to welcome the new girls into Alpha Phi knowing that together both Alpha Phi and these women will grow.

-Nicole Farmer
Senior, Active Member of Gamma Pi Alpha Phi

As we near recruitment I began thinking why I chose Alpha Phi.  I am not sure I can name one single thing that made Alpha Phi the right choice for me but I can certainly remember everything that made me picture my life in Alpha Phi.  Coming from across the country, knowing no one, and going into a University of nearly 60,000 students I knew I needed to make a connection to want to stay at ASU.   Greek life was never a question for me but which chapter I would end up in was a mystery.

The first aspect of Alpha Phi that immediately drew me in was the personalities of each and every girl.  While each was unique in their own way they seemed to have a special bond.  I now know that bond is Alpha Phi.  I knew there was never a question as to if I would be able to make friendships and find my best friends within Alpha Phi.  Knowing that, my mind began to wonder to everything else beyond friendships that Alpha Phi could offer me, and little did I know what this fraternity could offer me was more than I could ever ask for.

Alpha Phi was the one place that I felt I could be a leader and that leadership and growth was a top priority.  From day one I began asking what positions I could hold and what ways I could be involved.  They offered me every opportunity from being on a committee to holding a position that interested me/ corresponded with my major.  As I began to grow the picture of my life in Alpha Phi I saw myself running for social chair my freshman year and wanting to completely immerse myself within the organization.

The next step toward becoming Alpha Phi was when I began asking about living in Adelphi and living with other women in the house.  When I heard about the sisterhoods at Adelphi, the movie nights, and the bond they had built by living together I knew there wasn’t any other choice but to move in as soon as possible.  It also helped that they mentioned having 30 closets of your sisters’ clothes to share (which I must say has become very helpful).  Again my imagined life within Alpha Phi grew.

As the weekend continued each day brought me one step closer to knowing there was no other choice for me but Alpha Phi. Learning about Alpha Phi’s philanthropy and the support for cardiac care surprised me beyond belief.  I had no idea that a group of college women could put on a Gala and raise thousands of dollars all by themselves.  I knew right then these women were the most outstanding group of women I had ever met.   Right then it was very clear there was no other place for me.

As my journey has continued I still believe there is no place for me but in Alpha Phi.  I have made my best friends for life here in Alpha Phi, made friendships and relationships that have forever changed my life.  I ran for a position my first year within Alpha Phi and held the position of social chair as a freshman/sophomore after which I ran for President and was elected by my sisters.  I have lived in Adelphi with my sisters for now going on my 3rd year and cannot even imagine moving out.  Being President as a sophomore and now junior I have grown as a person in uncountable ways.  I am a friend, I am a leader, I am a student with a 3.5 GPA, and I am an active supporter of cardiac care awareness.  I believe I am all of this because of the support and love of Alpha Phi.  There was and still is only one choice for me, Alpha Phi.

Forever & Always

Hello,

My name is Emily Johnson and I am proud to represent the Gamma Pi Chapter of Alpha Phi as the 2010 Vice President of Membership Recruitment! I couldn’t be more excited about this fall’s formal recruitment.  Alpha Phi means becoming a part of an international sisterhood and joining a group of women who genuinely care for one another, share common goals and interests, and have a great time with each other!

As Alpha Phis at ASU, we participate in community service events, hold our own philanthropies, attend fraternity mixers and date nights, all while maintaining stellar GPAs. Our sisters are also heavily involved outside of Alpha Phi in other campus organizations. Our Scholarship Chair and Manager of New Member Orientation are committed to helping new members reach their academic goals and are committed to making your transition to college an unforgettable experience.

Alpha Phi offers a home within our sisterhood. I love each and every one of my sisters and am so thankful for the lasting friendships I have made throughout my time in Alpha Phi. My sisters have helped me to become the best version of myself that I can be. I know that they will be here for me for my years at ASU and the rest of my life! After all, I didn’t come to college to meet my potential husband… I came to find my future bridesmaids!

A Phi Love and Mine,
Emily Johnson
